The Headmaster Mr Paul Smith writes:- 'I am delighted to have been entrusted with the leadership of such a fine school, with its strong tradition for excellence in academic studies, extra-curricular pursuits and pastoral care. Winston Churchill once said, "Headmasters have powers at their disposal with which Prime Ministers have never yet been invested." I am not sure about that: for me, being appointed Headmaster of Hereford Cathedral School is more about privilege than power. It is a privilege to observe young people grow, gradually acquiring the academic and social skills necessary to take on the various challenges of adult life. That privilege extends to helping pupils develop confidence in their own knowledge and understanding, as well as gaining confidence in themselves and those around them. It is particularly rewarding to see boys and girls surprised by their own achievements and, of course, it is wonderful to be in a position to witness so much creativity, enterprise, skill and pleasure.' |
